Award Nominations

The WTEA awards committee will accept nominations from members, building principals, LVEC's, and district administrators. To submit an award nomination use the nomination form published in the fall and spring issues of the WTEA journal, Interface, or send a written nomination that includes the following:
- your name, address, phone number and professional position

- the name of the individual or school you are nominating

- contact information for the individual or school you are nominating

- the name of the award(s) you feel the individual or school is deserving of

- a rationale (one page maximum) for your nomination

Upon receipt of the nomination the awards committee will contact the nominee and collect the necessary data. A description of the award follows.


Technology Educator of the Year
?For Outstanding Contributions to Technology Education?

The Technology Educator of the Year Award is the most prestigious award for instructional excellence presented to an instructor by the WTEA. ITEA members who receive this award will have their names forwarded for national recognition.

-All nominations must be sent to the WTEA Awards Committee no later than November 15th.

-The Secretary-Treasurer will solicit additional information about the nominees, if necessary. The Executive Director will verify the membership status of the nominees.

-Copies of nomination materials for eligible recipients will be shared with Awards Committee members for review.

-The Awards Committee will select one educator for recognition according to the qualifications criteria

-The Awards Committee shall notify the winner and his/her immediate supervisor of their selection and will submit publicity information to the WTEA Interface and the WTEA webmaster

-The award will be presented at the Awards Banquet or the annual membership meeting.

Qualifications
The nominee must:
-Have not received this award before. A member may only receive this Award once during a career. This award was previously called ?Man of the Year?.

-Be nominated by a WTEA member, a LVEC or an administrator

-Be a current member of the WTEA

-Have held membership in the WTEA for the preceding year

-Be a certified teacher of technology education

-Provide leadership to young people in technology education

-Operate or provide leadership in an innovative, exemplary or emerging program

- Promote the development of technology education in the community, region, state and/or nation

-Show a willingness to share successful activities, ideas, projects or undertakings with colleagues.

-Be active in youth and community programs that contribute to furthering the trends of technology education as well as providing growth experiences for the individuals involved.

-Exemplify professionalism by involvement in professional and community organizations


Program of the Year
?Outstanding School Technology Education Program?

This is the most prestigious honor given by the WTEA. The Awards Committee can give up to two awards annually, one to a junior high/middle school and one to a high school.

Procedures for Selection and Recognition
-All nominations must be sent to the WTEA Awards Committee no later than November 15th.

-The Secretary-Treasurer will solicit additional information about the nominees, if necessary. The Executive Director will verify the membership status of the nominees.

-Copies of nomination materials for eligible recipients will be shared with Awards Committee members for review.

-The Awards Committee will select the program(s) for recognition according to the qualifications criteria

-The Awards Committee shall notify the and will submit publicity information to the WTEA Interface and the WTEA webmaster

-The award will be presented at the Awards Banquet or the annual membership meeting.

Qualifications
The nominee must:
-The school must not have received this award within the past five years. Example: a school that receives the award in 1995 is eligible to receive the award again in the year 2000.

-Be nominated by a WTEA member. A LVEC, or an administrator

-Programs should reflect Standards for Technology Education Programs and the state guide for curriculum planning.

-Have sixty percent of the technology education faculty must be members of the WTEA. (To be forwarded on to National, 60% must also belong to ITEA.)

-Some of the technology educations staff should have been members the previous year.

-Submit a program portfolio including: school curriculum documentation, facility photographs, course descriptions, copies of newspaper clippings, testimonials, etc.

-Provide technology education students with opportunities for leadership development

-Show a willingness to share successful activities, ideas, projects or undertakings with other districts


WTEA Award of Excellence
?For Exemplary Achievement in Technology Education?

The WTEA Award of Excellence is awarded annually to recognize teachers for providing outstanding programs in technology education and technology related courses. These awards are to be presented to individual teachers.

Procedures for Selection and Recognition
-All nominations will be sent to the Secretary-Treasurer or the Executive Director no later than November 15th.

-The Secretary-Treasurer will solicit additional information about the nominees, if necessary. The Executive Director will verify the membership status of the nominees.

-Copies of nomination materials for eligible recipients will be shared with Awards Committee members for review.

-The Awards Committee will select educators for recognition according to the qualifications criteria.

-The Awards Committee shall notify the award winners and will submit publicity information to the WTEA Interface and the WTEA webmaster

-The award will be presented at the Awards Banquet or the annual membership meeting.

Qualifications
-Must be nominated by a WTEA member, a LVEC, or an administrator

-Must be a current member of the WTEA and a licensed teacher of technology education or a licensed elementary teacher. Non-WTEA members from other instructional areas (math, science, etc.) who teach applied courses are also eligible for this award.

-Demonstrate a commitment to technology education, serve as a role model for students and colleagues

-Show a willingness to share successful activities, ideas, projects, or undertakings with colleagues.

-This award should not be given to an individual who has already received the WTEA Educator of the Year Award or Program of the Year Award within the previous two years.

WTEA Special Recognition Award
?For Service and Contributions to Technology Education?

Presented to business & industry professionals, school administrators, educators, and retiring board members in recognition of their service to the field of technology education.

Procedures for Selection and Recognition
-Nominations will be requested through the WTEA Interface, the WTEA web site and at the annual membership meeting.

-All nominations must be sent to the WTEA Awards Committee no later than November 15th.

-The Awards Committee will review the nominations and select appropriate recipients.

-The Awards Committee shall notify the award winners and will submit publicity information to the WTEA Interface and the WTEA Webmaster

-The award will be presented at the Awards Banquet or the annual membership meeting.
