2004 Technology and Engineering Outline Writing Team

Dr. Robert W. Hendricks-University of Wisconsin-Stout

Bob has 30 years in the Technology Education field including 8 years at the Middle and High School level. He has taught Exploring Technology, Impacts of Technology, Futures of Technology. He is a member of WTEA and ITEA. Among his achievements, Bob has been a WTEA President, Newsletter Editor, High School Teacher of The Year, Dahlgren Professor and has received ITEA Professional Development Award.

Damon R. Smith- Eau Claire North High School

Damon is a Technology and Engineering Educator at with 15 teaching experience. At the high school level he has taught Computer Construction and Network Design, Introduction to Operating Systems, Cisco 1, Cisco 2, Electricity/Electronics, Digital Electronics, and Electronics 3 as well as university level classes. He is a member of WTEA and ITEA. Among his achievements he has co-authored Upgrading and Repairing PC’s (academic version) 13th and 14th addition; he has been awarded the SkillsUSA Technological Literacy Award; WTEA Award of Excellence in Communications; and been a member of Wisconsin State Standards Task Force; and the Governor’s Taskforce on Technical Education.

Kenneth J. Starkman- Department of Public Instruction

Ken is a consultant at DPI who has 16 years experience in the Technology Education field and has taught at middle, high school and post-secondary level. He is a member of WTEA, ITEA, and WACTE. Among his achievements he has been awarded the WTEA Special Recognition Award; a member CATTS; Wisconsin Technology Education Standards Writing Team; ITEA Standards for Technological Literacy Reviewer; Project Lead the Way Director; SkillsUSA Director; and most currently has worked on the ProBase Project.

Mark Spoerk- Lynde & Harry Bradley Technology and Trade School

Mark is a Technology and Engineering Educator with 10 teaching experience. He has taught classes at the high school level in Engineering, Automation and Control. Mark is a member of WTEA, and ITEA. Among his achievements he has authored ITEA-CATTS Technology Systems; he is Wisconsin Representative to ITEA-CATTS; he was part of Bradley Tech curriculum writing for 5 years, as well as equipment selection and layout for Bradley Tech; and has been a successful grant author.

Mary R. Walz-(Mathematics Educator) Sauk Prairie High School

Mary has been teaching mathematics 16 years at the high school level. She currently teaches Integrated Mathematics and Advanced Placement Statistics. Mary is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Wisconsin Math Council. Among her achievements she has implemented a Standards Based mathematics curriculum 9-12; a Core Plus Mathematics Project facilitator; and a Leaders in Mathematics Project Facilitator.

Peter J. Watts- (Science Educator) Riverside Middle School

Peter has been teaching science for 16 years. He currently 7th grade Science and has taught at the 5, 6, 7th grade levels. Peter is a member of the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers, the Wisconsin Elementary and Middle Level Science Teachers, the National Science Teachers Association, and the Wisconsin Science Network. Among his achievements, Peter is a Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers (WSST) Past President; served on the Wisconsin Science Network Board of Directors; a recipient of the WSST Excellence in Teaching Award and the WEST Distinguished Teacher Award; he was also selected for Science World and Wisconsin Academy Staff Development Initiative. He has assisted as a 2002 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching specialist and the 2003 ESEA Improving Teacher Quality Selection Team. Peter is currently awaiting his National Board Certification.

Steve Meyer-Brillion Middle and High School

Steve is a Technology and Engineering Educator with 4 years teaching experience. He currently teaches classes at the middle school level in Exploratory, Manufacturing Systems, Communications Technology, Design and Problem Solving in Technology, Power and Energy, and Materials and Processes. Steve is a member of WTEA and ITEA.
Among his achievements, Steve has worked on Project PROBASE; ITEA National Standards “Criteria for Interpreting the Standards for Technological Literacy”; he is a CATTS Author – Technological Systems and worked on the Fox Valley Technical College – Project Mini Chopper; he was also part of the Bradley Tech Writing Team and has written and obtained numerous grants.

Alan G. Gomez- Madison West High School

Al is a Technology and Engineering Educator with 9 years teaching experience. He currently teaches Engineering and Material Science at the high school level and has also taught university level courses and is a member of WTEA and ITEA. Among his achievements, Al has been a WTEA Educator of the Year and an ITEA Excellence Award winner; he was a member of the Technology Education Standards Writing Team; written a National Foundations of Technology curriculum and National Introduction to Engineering curriculum for ITEA’s Center to Advance the Teaching of Technology & Science; he has published materials in professional journals and has recently finished writing Engineering Your Future-a hands on-standards based engineering textbook for high school students.

Steve Johnston-LaCrosse Logan High School

Steve is a Technology and Engineering Educator with 15 years teaching experience. He currently teaches Computer Networking, Computer Construction, Exploring Technology, CAD-Architecture, and Construction Concepts at the high school level. Steve is a member of WTEA and ITEA. Among his achievements, Steve was part of the Technology Education Standards Writing Team; he is a WTEA Past-President; an ITEA Teacher Excellence Award recipient; a WTEA Technology Educator of the Year; and a Kohl Teacher Fellowship recipient.
